Day 2 at Money 20/20

It was a fantastic Day 2 here at Money20/20. Absolutely delighted to meet with Andrea Linehan (our former Marketing genius) and the indomitable Colm Lyons from Fire. I also had the pleasure of meeting with UK Cash Advance business 365 Finance.

Some reflections from Day 2

Still a general sense that we are in a crypto Winter according to Inch, Coinbase and Bitstamp but on the other side there will be a better and stronger industry.

There was a brilliant session called ‘Big Ideas for Small Business Banking’ with contributions from Maartje Cremers from Knab, Lucy Cohen from Mazuma Money, Richard David from Allica Bank and Ian Sutherland from Tide.

This session focused on what we in GRID know well – Products in the SME space have clearly saved time for SME business owners because they are so time poor. All the contributors talked about how easy it is overwhelm small business owners with features and also just how unique each small business is – access to SME products has to be tailored to their own unique needs.

All see a huge opportunity in SME banking in the UK.

There was an interesting presentation from Qonto CEO Alexandre Prot – another SME banking challenger. He focused on Impact but I have to say his definition of being an impactful organisation is very different to mine and what we do here in GRID.

Philippe Gelis had a refreshing talk on exits and how most exits are actually failure dressed up as success – He exited for €120m in cash so one of the minority true successful exits.

Lastly there was a mind-bending talking on the new Electronic Securities Act in Germany and how it will drive tokenisation in Germany – More on that in the future as they have really set the regulatory standard for tokenisation in Europe.

We finished the day with a canal cruise courtesy of Enterprise Ireland where I met Minister Jennifer Carroll McNeill, Colum Lyons of ID Pal, Seamus Hodgson of Currency Fair and the wonderful Emily Gallen from EI.

It was an action packed day – tomorrow is the final day with lots of trade exhibitions to take in. What a great event!
